Allen Lindemon was in the backyard of his Dundalk home with his dog when he glanced up and saw a cloud that looked like the angel on the headstone for his sister, who died last summer.
When Allen stopped by Quick Mart on Wise Avenue in Dundalk on Monday, March 11, he was ready to try his luck with a Powerball ticket when he remembered the touching cloud and thought it might be a sign to opt for scratch-offs.
“I never pick up scratch-offs,” Allen told lottery officials. “I was thinking my sister is telling me to go to the store and get scratch-offs.”
He then spotted a $5 Lucky Riches scratch-off in the Lottery vending machine and took two of the instant tickets home, offering one to his wife.
She had a non-winner while Allen quickly discovered he won the game’s $50,000 top prize.
“I said, ‘Oh my God’ and turned it around and showed it to my wife,” said Allen.
The two have shared the news with family members and friends and say they plan to put their winnings toward a bathroom remodel.
“I never in the world won this much money,” said Allen, who took the day off work to claim his prize Friday.
